One day we will all wake up and realize how
Much we should be grateful for.
No one realizes how fortunate we are to have home
While others have nowhere to sleep
A little girl came up to me and smiled,
I looked at her and i shed a tear. I gave her my jacket and a hug.
She looked at me and said why are you so kind?
I hugged her and sat there beside her and told her
I am a person who cares.
She wouldn't understand that I was not an angel
But she insisted that I was.
Little things can mean a lot to other people
We all need to help one another.
Even if it's just a hug to someone who is sad.
Even if it's just a dollar to the homeless families.
Even if it's just a smile, people feel happy when
You show an act of kindness,
people complain about how people are starving
and have no homes. yet they tend to do nothing about it.
No one cares anymore except for themselves.
Wouldn't you appreciate a hug when you are down?
Wouldn't you appreciate a dollar if you were broke?
The name Mistissini, or "big rock," is said to originate from an immense boulder located near the discharge of the lake into the Rupert River. The area around the big rock was known as a gathering place. The name was applied to the people living around Mistassini Lake at least by the 1600s when references are made in Jesuit writings.
"We the Cree of Mistissini have resided in the Mistissini Lake region since time immemorial. The community of Mistissini's present location has been our summer encampment since the early 1800's, due to the establishment of the Hudson's Bay Company...Apart from the Mistissini people, the neighbouring Cree hunting groups such as the Nitchiquon, Neoskweskaau, and even some Nemaska people who eventually came together to make up the Mistissini population, starting in the 1930's. Government assistance began in the 1940's, providing food rations and eventually a clothing allowance. It was not until the early 1960's that government assistance was fully in place for the Mistissini Crees. The James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) was signed on November 11, 1975, giving the Cree of Mistassini and the surrounding region the opportunity to further develop their respective communities.
"Over the years, our community has grown to a population of 3200. We have build modern public facilities including schools (pre-school to adult education), daycare, clinic, arena and sports fields, post office, police and fire station, geological centre, radio station, public and private housing, and a community administrative office.
"Our community also hosts regional Cree organizations such as, the Cree School Board Head Office, Cree Construction Head Office, James Bay Cree Communications Society and the Cree Health Board Inland Office.
"Finaly, our local economy has developed to include services such as gas bar, vehicle service station, grocery store, bank, co-op store, corner store, restaurants, mining exploration, Forestry Company, construction and transportation companies and tourism operators."
